My Way

"My Way" is a famous English pop song in Europe and America. The melody is derived from the famous French song "Comme d'habitude". The original French version was written by Claude François and Jacques. Jacques Revaux and Gilles Thibaut co-authored in 1967, and later adapted into the English version by Paul Anka, first included in Frank Sinatra in 1969 The album of the same name has since taken the world by storm.
"My Way" begins with the sentence "And now, the end is near", telling about an old man who is about to die. He looked back at his life to his friends around him, telling how to be strong and confident to face the challenges in life. In the rushing years, he regretted very few things, was proud of his life, and walked out of his own life.
This song has not only become Sinatra's masterpiece, it is also often used as a farewell song in popular culture to signify the end of a performance or the departure of a person. "My Way" is also often chosen to sing or play at funerals because it represents a person's life. It is said to be the most favorite piece of farewell music used by the British. But it's hard to tell if someone has been so loyal to the true self all his life!
And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full
I've traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way.
Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the by way
and more, much more than this
I did it my way.
Yes, there were times
I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way.
I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill
my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing.
To think I did all that
And may I say - not in a shy way
No, oh no not me
I did it my way.
For what is a man
what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
Yes, it was my way
〈My Way〉以一句"And now, the end is near"(現在快要離別)作開始,講述一名快將離世的老人。
